Frugal Friday

Zaycon Foods offers bulk meat at a great price. The boneless skinless chicken breast is $1.69/lb. I am ordering enough for 6 months. I will freeze about 2/3 of what I buy and can the rest. Little Pumpkin LOVES canned chicken and it's far less expensive to can your own than to buy it already canned.

I have ordered chicken and ground beef from them in the past. You just have to be aware that the meat is in bulk packaging so be prepared to repackage it into meal size packages. In other words you can't just bring it home and pop it into the freezer or you will end up with a 40 pound chickensicle. However, for me, feeding a family of 6, this is a great price and hopefully it will help me save on my grocery budget in the long run.

Frugal Friday

This weeks tip is to dedicate one shelf in your fridge to leftovers or foods that need to be eaten. Hopefully this will help you avoid those science experiments, and save money!

Frugal Tip

Last week we started organizing, this week we are gonna sell the junk treasures we don't need and make some money!

I am sure as you are organizing and cleaning you are finding things you don't use, won't use, or have duplicates of.... Sell em!

Ebay is a great place to do this, best of all you get to add multiple listings auction style for free!

Craigslist is a great place to sell larger item, for free!

This weeks tip....Get organized! How many times have you "lost" something then bought a replacement only to find what you lost. This is a huge money waster.

You can buy cheap bins for organizing at the dollar store, or find them at the thrift store, or maybe you already have some! Go find them.

Overwhelmed? Pick one area and start there, a closet or cabinet. Don't try to do it all in one day, take baby steps and as you see your progress it will help motivate you to do more. Make sure you let others in the house know that these organized areas are to stay organized, or else!

Frugal Tip

Save money on groceries by making a menu. This is so simple and a great way to save money on food. If you run out of ideas ask your kids! Need a recipe? Go to All Recipes on the internet.

How long should your menu be for? I usually 2 weeks or sometimes a month, it depends on when you get paid and how much room you have to store the food. Don't forget to "shop" in your freezer, cupboard and pantry when making your money saving menu.

I also try to combine ideas with sales, for example if cheese, pasta and tomatoes are on sale I might make spaghetti, macaroni, chili mac, tacos.

This is a great way to use leftovers as well, make chili and use the leftovers for chili mac.

A great way to make a meal go further is to add bread or potatoes. Baked potatoes topped with leftovers! Healthy, affordable and delicious!
